Merry Christmas

It's better late than never to wish all our Christian customers and friends a very MERRY CHRISTMAS :) Have a good break with your loved ones.

Butter cake for any occasion

Butter cakes are always so delicious and versatile.  You can have them made up for special occasions or just eat them plain. I  (Z here by the way) always enjoy them plain with tea or coffee.

Just to share our recent bakes of butter cakes where we have been requested to do :-
  • for an ex-girlfriend
  • to feed the team who did the qurban during Hari Raya Aidiladha
  • for a mother's birthday
  • for no reason at all! Dad loves butter cake and kids love chocolate. So mommy has requested us to put chocolate icing on the butter cake. It's just for all of them to enjoy :)

the lucky draw winners!

We were quite excited about doing the lucky draw winners the old-fashioned way. Pen, paper, scissors, messy handwriting, and some papercuts.

As we mentioned earlier, everyone who Liked the draw doubled their chances of winning.

And there goes all the names into the cup.

Of course Z the matriarch had the honours. She had to take a break from icing some cupcakes to choose a piece of paper at random.

Elli Suraya Rozlee was the first name she picked!

Strangely dissatisfied with only granting one winner to the lucky draw, we suddenly decided to draw TWO more names to make it a Top 3. This means we've tripled our prizes! And the official winners list of our very first birthday lucky draw are:

  1. Elli Suraya Rozlee — a hot meal set of your choice for two
  2. Lainie Yeoh — a whole pan of blondies
  3. Roshidah Abdul A'ala — a whole pan of brownies
Congratulations! Thank you for being fans of our Facebook and part of our first birthday celebration :) We'll be waiting for your call to make arrangements for your lucky draw prize of choice!
Today we are a year old! We couldn't have asked for a better first year; new friends, old ones, a cozy shop with hardly any complications, people who've written about us and talked to us, and especially people who've welcomed us into their lives and stomachs. People like you.

So from now till November 21, 2010, we're rewarding you with tea or coffee for only RM1 whenever you decide to drop by and have our cookies, cupcakes, brownies or blondies (all of which have gained quite a reputation in just a year).

And if you've liked us on Facebook, even better! We want you to join our Lucky Draw. It only takes just one comment from you; tell us which you'd like most:

A. a dozen cupcakes (butter/orange/choc)
B. whole pan of EITHER brownies OR blondies (mmm)
C. 15 oversized soft cookies of your choice
D. a home-cooked hot meal set for 2 (see Daily Hot Meals on our Page)

One comment later and you've entered our Lucky Draw! 1 entry per Facebook fan only (but we'll double your chances if you Like the contest) The draw also ends on November 21, 2010, so click your way to our Facebook wall and answer the easiest multiple choice question ever.

PS: While you're there on Facebook, why not dig up any photos you've taken of your Cookie Cat experience (in our shop, at home, or an event) and share them in our Fan Photos section? We're looking for photos to put on our wall, and we'd love it if yours was up there with the rest of them.

Thank you to KLUE for a little blurb in their September 2010 issue (#143) we just managed to uncover. We love the issue! So many other familiar faces in it too (like our lovely ice-cream making friends The Last Polka). If the print's too hard to read, click on the picture to see its full size!

We'll be closed from Tuesday, 7 September until Wednesday, 15 September for Aidilfitri celebrations. Already the shop is starting to look sleepier over the weekend. We've stopped baking cupcakes, so there'll only be cookies, brownies, blondies, sandwiches and hot meals in the shop till we're open again. Why the winding down? It's not that we've been slacking. Instead, our Raya orders have been overwhelming and deserve most of our attention. We wouldn't want anyone to be celebrating Aidilfitri with delayed cookie jars! It's been crazy keeping up with things. In fact, people are even taking our brownies and cookies on flights to Tanzania, Riyadh, Pakistan, and Houston Texas to share with their loved ones!

Today's surprise was a customer coming in to pick up her order, but decided on a whim to pick up the ENTIRE pan instead. So now we're baking more cream cheese brownies, and while waiting, we're getting back to work with these mountains of cookies.

count the cats!

A custom birthday cake order from a customer for her friend's birthday. She told us that her friend loves cats and the colour purple. This is what we came up with:

Yes, purple cats running on and around a rich butter cake. And Kaka is a nickname, of course!

Also, a regular customer of ours (vegetarian, loves our french toast) decided to mix it up a little a few days ago on her latest visit. She ordered thank-you cupcakes for her veterinarian, who went to great lengths to treat her cat. And so, here we have again coincidentally enough, MORE cats just a few days apart. We couldn't have made this up even if we wanted to (except the yummy stuff)!

But every day's a surprise here. It's one of the billions of reasons why we love what we do.

new (and possibly better!) directions to The Cookie Cat

We've had to give our fair share of directions over the phone to people trying to find us. Not that we don't like the phone calls, but over the months we feel we could probably give better directions to get here now than before. So here is a NEW visual companion to all those phone calls we've received:

If you use these photos to get here, tell us! We always appreciate feedback (and panicked phone calls).

our spaghetti bolognese

We've had a few people asking us for photos of our hot meals. Here's what we had today (Sunday) at the shop, spaghetti bolognese. The highlight of this hot meal is the really yummy beef sauce; it has just a hint of fire. We figured this demand for photos was just a great excuse as any for us to eat some ourselves...

Finally! A long-time favourite, shot for the first time.

Thank you to our customers who came in to break fast with us at the cafe today!

goodies for Hari Raya

Looking for cookies and cakes for this Hari Raya? Our cookies, cupcakes, brownies, and blondies would be ideal for the celebration. We have peanut cookies, almond cookies, and the smaller version of our popular big soft cookies (chocolate chip cookies, double rich chocolate cookies and mocha chunk cookies). Price starts from RM15.

You would not want to miss our classic butter cake, rich chocolate cake, and the yummy orange cake for the occasion too as they are simply delicious to serve with tea or coffee.

Check out our Goodies for Hari Raya photo album on our page in Facebook. Call or e-mail us fast to avoid  any disappointment :)

birthday of the year

A special birthday cake for The Person of the Year! This classic butter cake was ordered by a group of friends to surprise the birthday boy :)

punk and rock bands

A lucky guy had received these punk and rock band themed cupcakes for his birthday recently. His girlfriend had ordered them as he was a big fan of the rock scene. Of course we were thrilled to be part of the celebration. These were butter, orange, and chocolate cupcakes topped with buttercream icing. We were proud of our effort and extremely happy to hear that he loved the cupcakes!

baby shower cupcakes (part 3)

This time around, it's a blue themed cupcakes to celebrate the birth of a cute baby boy. Congratulations to the proud parents!

ladybugs cupcakes for the little lady

Sarah's mom had chosen a red, black and green theme for  little Sarah's first birthday cupcakes. It's delightful to see the happy faces at the party where everyone came dressed in red too :)

It's black, it's white...

As both of them loved music, black and white music designed cupcakes were the choice to celebrate the birthdays of a dad and his daughter. These petite butter cupcakes were topped with buttercream icing.

cupcakes for teachers

It's the start of school break! This means we've been involved in lots of teacher-student love.
  • We received orders for several uncut brownies (by the pan!) that a teacher bought for her students.
  • A group of students also bought some for their favourite teacher.
  • And a headmistress bought 50 cupcakes to treat her teachers with!
Looks like showing appreciation for your favourite educators isn't just for Teachers Day anymore!

celebrate life

Two sons ordered these cupcakes for their mother, who spent some time this year battling cancer. Like many others, she attended the Relay for Life event organised by National Cancer Society Malaysia over the weekend, and they wanted to surprise her with a few of our treats. We hope she loves them.

L. dropped by to check out the event too! It was manic. The heavy rain in Bukit Jalil definitely did not stop anyone from having fun. The cupcakes were decorated on the fly; had we known purple and yellow were the colours of the day (purple shirts for survivors, yellow for everyone else), we might have reconsidered our cupcake colour scheme. But then again it was a last-minute call, and they were for a mother, not for the event.

For those who've been having trouble making their way to Subang Jaya to check out our little bake shop, we might have a few solutions in the works. We'll update you soonest!

double comfort part 1

When you need something to perk you up, nothing is more comforting than ice-cream or cookies. To have both would be one of the greatest pleasures! With that, we proudly introduce our new sandwich: The Purr-fect Sandwich! It's our very own chewy cookies sandwiching a huge chunk of ice-cream, molded together with yummy gooey chocolate sauce! YUM.

cream cheese brownies

We're having a little taste-testing today for something you could be seeing on the menu really soon: cream cheese brownies. The taste-testing verdict? AWESOME. We're working on the pricing now, and hopefully will start selling it really soon. We already know a bunch of hungry boys eager to try these out.

Here's a webcam photo taken a few minutes ago, now floating around on Twitter:

Thanks Lainie! Here's a fun fact; she designed our cat logo update and therefore our shop sign.

(Lainie: so worth it, free brownies!)

Football themed cakes/cupcakes (Part 3) - just football, no club this time!

A walk-in customer came in this morning and requested for football designed cupcakes. Something simple, something blue, for a boy's birthday :)
